See if we can get started real quick.
Alright, just give it a couple more minutes.
Right, so I guess I could kind of get started now.
Um so hello everyone. My name is Eddie and i'ma transferred missions counselor for UC Riverside. Coming to you live from my apartment here in Riverside.
And uhm you have to excuse my hair. It's getting out of control. I'm trying my best to keep it under control.
Yeah, let's just gotta keep going on.
Today I will be presenting to you folks on the next steps to enrollment.
So for all of you here, you should have already received your admissions decision. Congratulations on being admitted, but I'm sure you now have several questions as to what the next steps are going to be. So we put together this presentation to kind of help guide students just what the next few weeks are probably going to look like. and I do have my colleague with me. She is actually a current transfer student, so you can go ahead and post any questions that you might have.
On the chat and please give us a chance to get through them. We won't be able to get through them all right away, but we will try to answer as many as we can and then towards the end of the presentation I'll go ahead and answer any further questions.
See if we could go ahead and get started.
So applicant timeline, all of you submitted your application back in November through our University of California website and you should have begun receiving notifications in early March and there's still decisions being rolled out even right now. So if you have like a family member or friend who still hasn't been notified about their admissions decision, that's OK. There's still rolling out right now.
Uh, there are a few deadlines for people to keep in mind. Of course, faster deadline that one open back up in October and then the deadline was March 2nd. Staying with the California DREAM Act application. That one. Also the deadline was on March 2nd. We do have the official transcript deadline of July 1st. That deadline is for students who have completed their spring coursework and now they need to submit those official transcripts with their official.
Rates that we can go ahead and review and verify that you have completed all of the requirements needed for admission and then there is also the July 15th deadline for students to submit AP scores IB scores which they may have needed for their application and then one important deadline is the Sr deadline for transfers, which is June 1st now go ahead and talk about that in the next slide.
So step one is say yes to UCR and the way you say yes, UCR is by submitting your serve just statement of intent to register. You can submit that online through your my UCR portal.
Let's us know that you will be planning to enroll at UCR for this fall of 2020, so that's how you secure your spot that way. Now you can only submit an SR2 one campus, so please, I receive choose to campus that you really want to go to, and you can submit the the Sir. Like I said online, you could submit the payment at that point. Or if you like, to defer until fall, then you can go ahead and defer the payment.
That way too now. One thing I do want to clarify is that when you defer the payment, that doesn't mean that you're not going to pay the Sr fee. That just means that that fee will be added towards your fall tuition and fees, which could be paid through your financial aid package. Or if you have to pay out of pocket, then that's where I'm going to go ahead and pay it at that point. So it's really up to you. Or what point if you want to pay it now or later on in fall, but you do need to submit some sort of decision by June 1st.
If you do not submit your essay are by June 1st, then your admission could be rescinded so and that obviously is not good.
Step 2 is visiting your my UCR portal often. So as you folks know, that's how we were able to communicate to students who have applied to UCR through that my UCR portal, and that's what you'll know about important dates, deadlines and your checklist for admission. So some important dates of course are your Highlander Orientation, which I'll speak a little bit more about later on. In the presentation deadlines like the ones I mentioned about submitting your transcripts financial.
Find out about housing and then also your missions checklist. So that's where you're going to go ahead and see any provisions of admissions that you might have. So just because you were accepted right now doesn't mean that say it. You're all good there still provisions to it, meaning you still have to complete your courses with the greatest. You're better meet a minimum GPA and some majors in colleges have other requirements and you still need to complete so you can go ahead and see those through your my UCR account.
So if there are any changes to it, that's where you're going to go ahead and find out. So please check that often.
So step three is financial aid. Now this is one that we receive a lot of questions for. You can see your financial aid award package on your our web account.
Um, so you should have received or will receive soon an email letting you know that your financial aid package is available on our web for you to review, and that's where it can go ahead and accept or decline any awards that you have been given now. what I mean by that is that now all of the financial aid that you receive you necessarily need to accept meaning students who may be received grants and loans. Maybe they don't want to use the entire loan or at all. So then you could go ahead and make changes to your financial aid package.
At that point through your our web depending on what your financial need will be of course, if you have any questions. You can always contact. Our financial aid office. The email is right, there and of course, you know that currently the campus is closed so there will be no one to answer the phone. If you do decide to call so emailing is the best bet right now, but please allow some time for response. There are currently hundreds of students sending emails to financial aid.
So it could take some time before you receive a response.
Step 4 fulfilling your provisions of admission. So kind of what I mentioned earlier. There are things you still need to complete in order to remain eligible to enroll in classes. At UCR. One big thing to keep in mind is completing the courses that you stated were in progress with the grade of C or better, which allows you to maintain good standing GPA of at least 2.0 now. Certain colleges and schools require other GPA so.
Make sure you still continue to meet the minimum GPA. So for example, our School of Business, they still require a specific GPA and then there are other additional provisions that admissions that you would need to complete before you begin at UCR. So this could be a certain course that you still need to complete submitting scores for exams. Whatever it is, make sure to stay on top of that so that you can go ahead and.
And remain eligible for UCR.
So now Step 5 submitting official documents so your official transcripts do need to be submitted by July 1st. As I mentioned earlier, those transcripts do need to reflect your official grades for your spring term. That way we can go ahead and verify that you were able to meet the admissions. The provisions of admission and make sure that.
Your course work actually matches up with your application. You do have until July 15th to submit your AP and or IB exam scores. That something you could see through your my UCR portal. If there are certain exams scores that you still need to submit to us. If you are completing coursework over summer, you will still need to submit your first set of transcripts by July 1st and then as soon as you're done with your courses over summer, you will need to submit a second set of transcripts.
Uh, I showed the official grades for.
For your summer courses so and that needs to be done as soon as possible so we can continue on with the review process an also that let's you be able to register for classes on time.

Hello! Do you know when the financial aid status changes from Offered to Accepted?
Some of you may have had high school transcripts requested. That is, of course on a case by case basis. Sometimes we use that to determine certain.
Monica Gomez
04:11:33 PM
Hello Jeimmy, when you choose to 'accept' your award letter the status should change soon.
Course work that we need to to see. So if you did receive a request for your high school transcripts, there is no deadline. Essentially for those transcripts, but.
Force submitting them as soon as possible will also help you down the line with, for example, of course is you need to register for and such.
Uh, submitting your a statement of legal residence. So this is really important to determine who can qualify for in state tuition, for example or out of state tuition.
And of course, financial aid your tuition and fees is really dependent on this so.
You do have the deadline to submit of June 15th to submit any documents or whatever they do require from students. And again, this does impact not only the amount of financial aid, the types of financial aid that you receive, but also wear your overall tuition will be, so that's something that you really want to get to as soon as possible.
Step 7 is applying for housing. Now you do apply for housing. Once you have submitted your Sir your statement of intent to register. It's important that you get on top of this as soon as possible because there are several housing opportunities here on campus. Several campus apartments.
For transfer students in particular, however, they do fill up just like any other place, so being able to submit your housing application will put you through the top. The line, of course, and then you will find out if you receive the spot or if you have been put on the waitlist. Whatever your situation, maybe at that point, those housing contracts are available online through housing.ucr.edu.
So if you are interested in the housing option then you could go ahead and do that once again after you submit your.
Sir, and it is a good idea for students who maybe are commuting or who live quite some distance away from campus to go ahead and start looking into housing. I'm here on campus. We do have a virtual tours online which it go ahead and see. Kind of how some of the rooms look like when it comes to housing. You can choose your own roommates as well. And of course, choose the location that you would prefer.
So it is important to take a look at that early on and then of course go ahead and get that contract started. And if you do have any questions about housing or if you already submitted your contract and awaiting a response, you could always contact housing as well to get any of those questions answered.

Is UCR accepting official transcript by email? That is the only way my community college is sending official transcript my email.
Monica Gomez
04:14:52 PM
Hello Elsa, UCR is accepting official transcripts via online. You can find more information about this on your 'MyUCRAccount'
Step 8 is submitting your waiver forms so there are requirements specific health requirements for UCR students, and you could actually learn more about them through our studenthealth.ucr.edu sites. So any of those that have been requested for you could go ahead and submit through the health portal on that site. And of course, if you have any questions about these specific health requirements, you can go ahead and.
Ask them through there as well.
Step 9 registering for your Highlander orientation for transfers. Now the sessions will be offered in September. You can register the Register for those orientations by August 1st. Now orientation is mandatory for incoming transfer students because not only will you know your learn more about the programs that we offer here at UCR.
Learn a little bit more about the campus, but also that's where you're going to go ahead and meet your academic advisor and your academic advisor is going to be the individual that you're going to go to whenever you have questions about your schedule, questions about a specific courses, all that stuff, and being able to graduate on time, of course, so that's where you're going to go ahead and meet this academic advisor, and that's where you're going to go ahead and register for classes as well, so that's why it's important that you're able to turn in.
Your transcripts on time so that you have everything verified on your account. So then then you are able to go ahead and register for classes without any delay so.
It all goes hand in hand and like I mentioned, orientations a great opportunity to go ahead and learn more about their resources that we offer for all students. And of course, for transfer students specifically.
Men step 10 officially becoming a UCR, Highlander, or classes will begin in fall. Usually begin like last week of September or early October.

Can one qualify for free housing?
Monica Gomez
04:17:04 PM
Hello Marisol, this is a case by case scenario, and it will depend on the students financial aid package.
So that obviously is a very exciting time, especially for incoming transfers. So that's basically the next steps to becoming a Highlander. So as I mentioned before, I will be staying online a little bit to answer any questions you folks might have, and I get to as many as I can soon enough, so thank you.

What is the maximum number of transferable units (lower and upper-division) could I receive? How many units do I have to take at UCR as a senior to graduate?
As mentioned, will be answering some questions. Uhm, so too hung, you ask what is the maximum number of transferable units lower and upper division can I receive and how many units to I have to take at UCR? Is a senior to graduate so.
04:19:24 PM
Is there housing available for families with pets?
The maximum number of transferable units. There is a limit that we do have as to how many units are able to transfer to UCR, and that's because we want to avoid students getting into senior standing once they're here. Now, if you took all your coursework at a California Community College, then you don't necessarily have to worry about any unit limits at that point because will make the changes and once you transfer in, you will be transferring in in junior standing.
Now if you went to another institution where you did take upper division courses as well, then it would depend on the if those courses were transferable or not. Not always will they be transferable, so they won't always be added to your unit count.
And then of course, once you do speak to an advisor, you go ahead and have a better idea what your final unit account will be and ask for.
Monica Gomez
04:20:17 PM
Unfortunately, housing doesn't allow pets to live in the on campus apartments. For more information please visit the housing website https://housing.ucr.edu
How many units do you need to graduate? Again, that is dependent on the major that you choose. Some majors do have a higher upper division coursework amount that you will need to complete in order to be able to graduate. Some have lower unit counts. Typically you need about 180 quarter units to be able to to graduate, but of course it does depend on not only how many courses you still need to complete once you transfer, and then how many courses you did.
Um, complete previously, so that's something to keep in mind when it come.

04:21:09 PM
the provisions require me to complete 1 more class by the end of summer 2020. However, my college does not open that class in summer. What should I do?
Alright, so there is another question actually. There's a few questions about summer coursework, so when it comes to summer, if you did receive an alert saying that you do need to complete it by the end of summer.
But in some cases, the college may not offer it over summer. Then we do suggest students to first look to see if they can complete the course at another campus. So just to give you folks a quick example. Here in Riverside we do have, for example, Riverside City College. We have Moreno Valley College and we have Norco College there like their own local district. So if.
There is a class AD do require and maybe Riverside does an offer it, but maybe they could go ahead and take it in Norco then that's an option for them to go ahead and take those summer classes to be able to meet the requirement. If there are any issues. The same like you still cannot find that summer class that you will need to meet your provisions of admission, then I would highly suggest that you go ahead and reach out to admissions so that you can go ahead and be.
Marisol Reveles Trujillo
04:22:43 PM
So, Classes taken during summer are still transferable?
So you could contact your admissions counselor so you can know what the next steps are for your situation. So of course every situation is different, so please get in contact with us when it regards to summer classes that you are not able to take. and I did see another question about our summer courses transferable, so if it is of course again that was listed on your admissions or provisions of admission then.
Uh, yes, go ahead and submit an and you do take that summer course. Then of course that's still part of your requirements, so once you go ahead and complete that then you would have to again submit a second transcript and they will be transferable. But of course that is determined through. Once we reviewed your application. So if you see it on your my UCR saying that you need to complete a summer course then that's how you know.

can we only register for orientation once we have met the transcript requirement?
Alright, so again I'm trying my best to get through these questions those Monica so Please be patient, but here's another one. Can we only register for orientation once we have?
Made the transcript requirements so.
The thing is that meeting the transferred requirement will assist you when registering for your orientation or when going to orientation, because if you did not submit your transcripts, you will not be able to register for classes during your annotation an the risk at that point is that if the longer you wait to submit these transcripts to more of the spots in these classes will be filled and then there is. Potentially you might not be able to take the classes that you need in order to progress under degree through upper division courses or whatever.
Your situation is so please submit your Tran Scripps by that deadline so that once you do register for rotation and your attend orientation, you can go ahead and have a smooth transition into registering for for your classes as well.

I did add a late start course this semester that I didn't add in my UC application. Do I tell my advisor about this during orientation?
Nghi Tran Molina
04:25:38 PM
the provisions require me to complete 1 more class by the end of summer 2020. However, my college does not open that class in summer. What should I do?
Right, so a couple more questions here, uhm.
When about provisions requirement to complete one more class by the end of summer 2020, however, my college is not open that class in summer. What should I do? Again, if you're able to find that class at another Community College, that of course is the best bet. So you can go ahead and fulfill your requirements that way.
Uh, another thing is that you see are does what you see is do offer some recession courses and you don't necessarily need to be.
For example, at UCR, student to attend summer classes here, however, the fees are higher than if you were to go to a Community College. So if you are able to find it, another Community College then.
I'll see the best way to go. That way. You could also check throughassist.org to make sure that the requirement will fulfill whatever you need.
Uhm, the other question is I did add a late start course this semester that didn't add in my UC application. do I tell my advisor about this during orientation? Actually, go ahead and notify us now and admissions so that we can go ahead and review your application. Make sure everything is all good because by the time you reach your advisor in orientation, it might be too late. There could be other issues going on.
With your application or with specific courses, so it's better than you, go ahead and contact admissions as soon as possible, as can be connected to an admissions counselor so you go ahead and find out. Move forward with your situation.

what is the maximum nuber of units a student can transfer from community college
Dhruv Parmar
04:27:49 PM
when do get to talk a counselor to discuss the classes(schedule) that we need to take?
OK, so another question. What is the maximum number of units a student can transfer from my Community College?
Monica Gomez
04:27:53 PM
Hello Dhruv, like Eduardo mentioned earlier you will be able to choose and discuss your classes with your academic advisor the day of your orientation.
Um, so I again the maximum is technically about like 7070 students, 70s semester units. That's typically the cut off that we use. However, that's not something that if you only took courses at a Community College testing something you should worry about because we do that on our end. We've had students in the past you take well over 100 semester units, but we go ahead and limit the amount of units that are actually used.
And transfer over down to keep you in junior standing so again if you only completed coursework at a Community College. You don't have to worry about the unit counts. The biggest worry. I guess as if you are under 60 semester units. If you are able to get 260 semester units and higher that's OK. If you are below the 60 semester units. Then there could be issues with your admission at that point.

04:29:31 PM

Hi Azeem, yes you can begin to 'accept' your award letter once you have SIR'd to UC Riverside.

Question, i took a class to fullfill intro to logic at Mt sac. because my community college (chaffey) did not offer the times i needed. But, now i am having a little of a situation, now chaffey is not accepting that class as an equivalent to their logic class, and due to that i might not be getting my ADT. Will that affect my acceptance to UCR.
OK, so here's another question about a specific class.
So from what I understood in your situation is that the course you took a Mount SAC was not accepted by Chafey. Now that could be because those two are different colleges and unnecessarily work in the same district, so to speak.
When we look at courses that you have completed at different colleges.
It could be that, for example, chiefy does not accept it to meet a certain.
Course at their campus. However, if we determine that it is equivalent equivalent to, of course that you needed.
To go to UCR, then that's determination we make. So I guess you.
Quick example is that if let's say you took it stats course at Mount SAC, chiefy did not accept it, but maybe it will.
Be accepted at UCR, then that's the one that you should be more worried about in that case.
Gotoassist.org to go ahead and make sure that the course you did take at Mount SAC will go ahead and transfer over and meet a requirement that you still needed for UCR.
Alright, so um, I'm not seeing any further questions. Uhm at the moment.
Uh oh, never mind see one real quick.
Transfer the surprises, I think I.
Something about someone cheating except classes class and turn 7.
I think you were in a chat earlier. Actually, uhm, but yeah, go ahead and contact us at admissions actually for everyone. If you do have any further questions, go ahead and contact us at admissions that we can go ahead and answer any questions you might have. I know that right now through these webinars kind of a little bit more general, so of course we do have any specific questions regarding your classes. Any changes to your schedule?
Whatever it is, please go ahead and contact us at admissions. We will have several other webinars throughout the coming weeks, specially later on when we have more like a open house.
Thing I guess we'll be able to contact with the financial aid and others as well.
So uhm and then we do have one on one virtual appointment as well, which you can go ahead and sign up for through our admissions website.
That would be kind of go through your situations again as well. So thank you all for joining in for asking questions and I hope you folks all stay safe. Stay healthy if you're here in California. Stay cool kids, it's really hot.
Yeah, hope you folks have a great rest of your day.
